The Mongrel's Ez Star

This week I received my new Multiplex Easy Star.  I was hoping I would get the new sliver model, and that is exactly what turned up!  As there is none available in Australia until May, I decided to order in from Tower Hobbies.  Like always, it arrived on time, and safe and sound.

I ordered the ARF model, and as we have come to expect from Multiplex,  the build was the usual straight forward, with very clear instructions. I purchased at Himark Brushless 28-15 2000RPV motor to replace the stock brushed 400 sized motor.  I also installed a MotroFly 30A ESC ( thanks Woodsy) on the roof of the aircraft to keep her cool.  This is powered by a 2200mAh battery in the nose, spinning a 6x4 prop. Although initial testing will see me up that to a 6x5. As this bird will be used for some aerial photography, and possible FPV, I installed an AR6200 full range RX - To be sure! To take the added grunt from this new power plant, I also extended the wing spar some what.  This will go a long way to saving the wings from snapping during those harder 'G' moments.

The only other real modification that I completed was to create an entirely new rudder.  The rudder that is supplied will just have no influence under the load of the new motor.  I will most likely also add a carbon spar on the underside of the elevator to stop it from flexing, and to give that little bit more authority in high speed dives etc. MAIDEN REPORT The maiden flight went really well.  The conditions were far from perfect.  In fact, they were quite windy, but experience with a mates EZ gave me the confidence to throw her up. She flew beautifully with very little trim required.  When the throttle was pushed, she had more than enough power to take her skyward.  Then I took her up and killed the power.  She just hung in the sky - effortlessly!  At one point I put my hands in my pocket and let her be!

Landing was the same as any EZ.  you have to point her to the earth, or she will continue to glide away.  Other than that... there is nothing left to say, other than, if you don't have one... get one!
